China Responds to Questions on US-Colombia Immigration Dispute and Repatriation of Illegal Chinese Immigrants
TMTPOST – China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed a range of questions regarding recent developments between the United States and Colombia, following a threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on Colombia and deport illegal Colombian migrants. Trump’s comments raised questions about potential diplomatic tensions, including whether China plans to accept the return of illegal Chinese migrants currently in the United States.
Mao said that the matter between the U.S. and Colombia is an issue for the two countries to resolve, adding that China hopes both parties can handle it appropriately.
Regarding the issue of illegal Chinese immigrants in the U.S., Mao directed reporters to consult the relevant Chinese authorities for specific details. She reiterated China’s firm stance against any form of illegal immigration and noted that the Chinese government has been engaged in practical cooperation with immigration enforcement agencies, including those in the U.S., yielding positive results.
On the issue of deportations, Mao emphasized that China’s policy is to verify the identities of individuals before accepting their return. For those confirmed to be Chinese nationals from Chinese mainland, China is prepared to accept their repatriation.
