U.S. Could Collect $300 Billion in Tariff Revenue by End of 2025, Treasury Secretary Says
TMTPOST -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday that the country has already collected about $100 billion in tariff revenue so far this year, and that total could climb to over $300 billion by the end of 2025, fueled by President Donald Trump’s aggressive trade measures.
Speaking at a White House cabinet meeting, Bessent noted that the bulk of collections began in the second quarter after Trump imposed a near-universal 10% duty on U.S. imports and sharply increased tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles.
“We could expect that number to exceed $300 billion by the end of the year,” Bessent said, referring to the end of the 2025 calendar year.
A Treasury spokesperson later clarified that the $300 billion projection is based on collections through December 31, 2025—not the close of the government’s fiscal year on September 30.
