Midea Founder Held Hostage at Home
BEIJING, June 15 (TMTPOST) He Xiangjian, the founder of China’s leading home appliance company and household name Midea, was held hostage at his villa in Foshan city of Guangdong province in southern China, according to police records.
On Sunday afternoon, local police received a call at around 5 pm. The caller alleged that an intruder broke into A60 Junlan International Golf Life Village with explosives. The police rushed to the site and rescued the hostage. He was taken to the hospital by an ambulance.
Some online bloggers claimed that He’s son swam across the river near the villa to call the police.
Junlan International Golf Life Village, a high-end residential neighbourhood, was developed by Midea Group. It is located a 20-minute walk from the headquarters of the home appliance manufacturing company.
TMTPost reached an official of Midea for confirmation and was told“everything is fine now”.
Meidi Group has not made an official statement about the incident.
