Minors Contributed Only 2.6% to Tencent's Q2 Game Business Revenue
BEIJING, August 18 (TMTPOST) — Minors under 16 years old contributed only 2.6% of Tencent’s game business revenue in Q2 this year, the company’s report shows. Users under 12 years old only contributed 0.3% of the company’s game revenue, according to the report, which directly contradicts the idea that Tencent’s mobile games mainly target underaged audiences.
The report shows Tencent’s global game revenue in Q2 grew 12% year-on-year to RMB43 billion (US$6.63 billion). The company’s mobile game revenue from top-up increased by 13% to RMB40.8 billion (US$6.29 billion), while its PC game business grew by 1% to RMB11 billion (US$1.69 billion). Tencent’s revenue from social media business registered a growth of 9%, reaching RMB29 billion (US$4.47 billion).
The financial report also highlights Tencent’s efforts in protecting minors on its game platforms, including restricting minors’ playtime to one hour per day during weekdays and two hours per day on weekends.
