S. Korea’s Prime Minister and Presidential Officials Offer to Resign After Election Defeat
(AsianFin)— South Korea’s prime minister and senior presidential officials offered to resign on Thursday, after their conservative ruling party suffered a defeat in parliamentary elections. Wednesday's election outcomes dealt a significant blow to President Yoon Suk Yeol, potentially derailing his domestic agenda and exposing him to escalating political attacks from his liberal adversaries over the remaining three years of his tenure. Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and all senior presidential advisers to Yoon, excluding those overseeing security matters, tendered their resignations, as confirmed by Yoon’s office. It was not immediately disclosed whether Yoon had accepted their resignations.
