Samsung Union Targets Highest-End AI Chip Plants as Strike Flags
TMTPOST--Samsung Electronics’s largest union is urging employees at one of its advanced AI memory chip plants to go on strike, shifting tactics after their campaign for higher wages began losing momentum. In recent protests on Thursday and Friday at Samsung’s high-bandwidth memory facility in Pyeongtaek, located south of Seoul, several hundred workers participated following the union’s call for a general strike earlier in the week. This contrasts with the larger turnout of thousands at a public rally outside Samsung’s main facility in Hwaseong on Monday. The Pyeongtaek facility serves as a critical hub for Samsung’s efforts to secure a share of a vital market. The company is currently working to persuade Nvidia Corp. to adopt its high-bandwidth memory technology, which is essential for Samsung to compete with SK Hynix in the rapidly growing AI sector.
