Huawei Prepares New AI Chip to Compete with Nvidia in China
TMTPOST--Huawei Technologies is gearing up to launch a new artificial intelligence chip aimed at challenging Nvidia in the Chinese market, despite U.S. sanctions, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday. The new chip, named Ascend 910C, has been undergoing tests with Chinese internet and telecom companies in recent weeks. Huawei has informed potential clients that the Ascend 910C offers performance comparable to Nvidia's H100 chip. Last year, U.S. regulators imposed restrictions preventing Nvidia from selling its advanced chips, including the H100, to Chinese customers due to national security concerns. In response, Nvidia introduced three chips specifically designed for the Chinese market, including the H20 series. However, to comply with U.S. sanctions, the computing power of the H20 chips has been significantly reduced compared to the H100.
