"Black Myth: Wukong" Sales Approach Break-Even Point
TMTPOST--The highly anticipated domestic AAA game “Black Myth: Wukong” was officially launched on Tuesday, with all physical collector's editions already sold out, according to official sales channels.
Data from Steam’s hot-selling list indicates that the game topped the charts in China from August 6 to August 13. Additionally, sales figures from the national gaming sales rankings reveal that the game sold 1.2 million copies from its pre-order start until July 13, generating nearly 4 billion yuan ($560 million).
Previously, Feng Ji, the founder of Game Science, disclosed in interviews that the development cost per hour of gameplay for “Black Myth: Wukong” was estimated between 15 million and 20 million yuan, with the team projecting a total gameplay length of over 15 hours and actual development taking 1.5 times longer. Based on these figures, the development cost was estimated at a minimum of 400 million yuan. Given the current sales revenue, “Black Myth: Wukong” may have already covered its production costs.
