Tesla’s Shanghai Energy Storage Gigafactory Reaches 45% Completion
TMTPOST--The construction on Tesla's Shanghai Energy Storage Gigafactory has reached approximately 45% completion, said Tesla's Global Vice President Tao Lin in a Weibo post. The project is progressing at a fast pace, she noted.
The Shanghai facility, Tesla's first energy storage gigafactory outside the United States, officially broke ground on May 23, 2024. It is also Tesla's second energy storage gigafactory worldwide. In its initial phase, the factory is planned to produce 10,000 commercial energy storage units annually, with a storage capacity of nearly 40 GWh.
This project highlights Tesla's continued expansion into global energy storage markets as it seeks to enhance its capabilities beyond electric vehicles.
