Geely Scounting Locations for Potential European Plant
TMTPOST--Chinese automaker Geely is exploring possible sites for a manufacturing plant in Europe, though it has not yet committed to establishing local production, according to executives speaking with Reuters in Frankfurt.
Li Chuanhai, vice president of Geely Auto Group, a brand under Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, indicated that the decision is not finalized. “It is not 100% yet,” Li said when questioned about the possibility of building a plant in Europe.
Discussions are ongoing between Geely and Poland’s new government regarding a potential joint electric vehicle plant in the country. However, earlier this year, officials mentioned that Geely was not viewed as an ideal partner.
“We have a lot of possibilities,” Li noted, but he did not provide further details about the negotiations.
Nicolas Appelgren, Europe CEO for Geely’s Lynk & Co brand, confirmed that the company is evaluating various locations across Europe. While Lynk & Co currently offers only one hybrid model in the region, it plans to introduce a China-made battery-electric vehicle in Italy next month and aims to build its next battery-electric car in Europe, though no specific timeline has been set.
