Outbound, Inbound Travel Bookings Hit Record High During National Day Holiday
TMTPOST--Ctrip, a leading Chinese online travel agency, reported record-high daily bookings for both outbound and inbound travel during the National Day holiday. According to Ctrip's tourism and consumption report, the proportion of family travel in the outbound market rose from 34% to 37%, with spending on parent-child trips more than double the overall average.
Residents from fourth- and fifth-tier cities emerged as new drivers of outbound travel growth, with daily bookings surging 100% and 300% year-on-year, respectively. Inbound travel also saw a notable rise, with daily trips increasing by nearly 80%. Over half of foreign tourists stayed in China for more than seven days, with bookings from countries like Italy, Malaysia, Russia, and the U.S. more than tripling compared to last year.
The report also pointed out the growing popularity of "slow-charging tourism," where travelers prioritize relaxation and flexibility without a fixed itinerary. Those born in the early 2000s, excluding post-2005 individuals, accounted for nearly 20% of orders, becoming a key consumer group. Additionally, county tourism is gaining traction among young people, with daily bookings for such trips rising 40% year-on-year.
