Nearly $300 Million in Properties Owned by Evergrande Founder's Ex-Wife May Under Auction
Asianfin -- Ding Yumei, the ex-wife of Evergrande founder Xu Jiayin, possesses multiple properties worldwide valued at approximately $285 million. As liquidators in Hong Kong search for Evergrande-related assets globally, Ding's properties may be subject to takeover or auction to repay creditors. Previously, Evergrande's liquidators sought to recover around $6 billion from Xu Jiayin, Ding Yumei, and former executives of the company. In recent years, Ding has attracted significant attention from creditors and social media. An announcement from August 2023, published on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, referred to her as a "third party independent of the company and its related parties," rather than as "spouse," suggesting that she and Xu Jiayin have divorced after more than 30 years of marriage. It has been reported that over $7 billion in dividends distributed by Evergrande funded the couple's extravagant lifestyle and global shopping sprees, during which Xu owned three luxury apartments overlooking Hong Kong, along with a superyacht.
