Renault Group’s Ampere Plans to Launch Cobalt-Free Battery Technology by 2028
TMTPOST – Renault Group has announced progress in its electric vehicle division, Ampere. The development of the Twingo model, which was unveiled a year ago, is proceeding on schedule, with mass production expected to begin in 2026 at a target price of under €20,000. The development cycle for the Twingo is less than two years.
Following a successful technical collaboration on the upcoming compact electric vehicle, Nissan has invited Ampere to jointly explore the development of its next A-segment electric vehicle. Additionally, Ampere plans to introduce cobalt-free battery technology by 2028, aiming to double the energy density of current lithium-ion batteries by 2030 through the use of cobalt-free cathodes and lithium metal anodes in solid-state batteries.
Furthermore, based on the FlexEVan platform, Ampere is set to launch Europe’s first software-defined vehicle (SDV) in 2026.
