Renault Resumes R&D in China, Partners with Shanghai Longchuang for Vehicle Design Outsourcing
TMTPOST – Renault, operating with a light-asset model in China, is looking to reshape its research and development capabilities and enhance its competitiveness by leveraging the country's new energy industry chain.
The newly formed R&D team operates under Renault's wholly-owned subsidiary, Ampere, and reports to the company in France. According to sources close to Renault China, the overall project has been outsourced to Shanghai Longchuang Automotive Design Co., Ltd. ("Longchuang"). Renault's team will primarily focus on management and oversight of the project.
Longchuang is one of the earliest established independent automotive design companies in China and has previously worked on designs for various automakers, including Peugeot, Ford, Citroën, and VinFast. Furthermore, Renault has already established a partnership with CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd.) within its battery supply chain.
