Decart's AI Provides a Real-time, Playable Version of Minecraft
Asianfin -- Decart, an Israeli AI company that has recently emerged from stealth mode with $21 million in funding from Sequoia and Oren Zeev, has unveiled what it claims to be the first playable "open-world" AI model. Named Oasis, this model belongs to a new category of generative AI known as "world models." While many such models can simulate games, few achieve the high frame rates that Oasis does. I tested the demo out of curiosity and found that it still has significant room for improvement before it offers a truly enjoyable experience. The resolution is quite low, and Oasis often seems to "forget" the layout of the level. For instance, when I turned my character around, I was surprised to find the landscape rearranged. Oasis, which can be downloaded, powers a demo on Decart's website that features a Minecraft-like game generated on-the-fly from start to finish. Trained on videos of Minecraft gameplay, Oasis processes keyboard and mouse inputs to create frames in real time, simulating physics, game rules, and graphics.
