Buddhist Bhutan to Build ‘Mindfulness City’ Aimed at Job Creation and Attracting Investment
Asianfin -- Bhutan, the Himalayan kingdom renowned for introducing the concept of gross national happiness, is set to build a "mindfulness city" and will launch a $100 million bond issue on Monday to fund the project. The Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) will be located in a special administrative region with unique laws and regulations, designed as an economic corridor linking South Asia to Southeast Asia, according to officials. The city will prioritize walking and cycling to minimize emissions, with green spaces dedicated to meditation and relaxation. It will feature mindfulness-based education, public community activities, healthcare and wellness centers, as well as ecotourism initiatives. GMC will span more than 2,500 square kilometers along the border with India and offer opportunities for businesses in sectors such as finance, tourism, green energy, technology, healthcare, agriculture, aviation, logistics, education, and spirituality. The 10-year GMC 'Nation Building Bond,' launching on Monday, will be open for subscription by non-resident Bhutanese until December 17. The funds raised will be used to develop key infrastructure, including green energy and connectivity, as outlined on the GMC website.
