TMTPOST -- The latest rankings from international evaluation platform LiveBench have positioned Step-2, a trillion-parameter language model developed by China's StepStar, as the leading Chinese foundational large language model (LLM). Step-2 achieved a global fifth-place ranking, making it the only Chinese LLM in the top ten, with performance approaching OpenAI's o1-mini-2024-09-12 and surpassing notable models such as GPT-4o-2024-08-06 and Gemini-1.5-pro-002. In addition to StepStar, two other Chinese LLM companies, Tongyi Qianwen and DeepSeek, also secured spots on the leaderboard, showcasing China's growing competitiveness in the LLM field. This achievement highlights StepStar's technological advancements in the rapidly evolving global AI landscape, where models are measured for their capabilities in natural language understanding, generation, and other complex tasks.
