CATL in Early Talks to Establish Battery Recycling Operations in Europe
TMTPOST -- Chinese battery giant CATL is in discussions to set up a battery recycling business in Europe, as the company prepares to begin battery production in Hungary, expanding its presence in the region. Jason Chen, head of CATL's regional operations, confirmed that the company is engaging with governments across Europe, including Hungary, to explore potential sites for the recycling operations.
While in Budapest, Chen announced that a new battery manufacturing plant in Hungary is expected to start production in the second half of 2025. The company aims to create a closed-loop system in Europe, covering both manufacturing and recycling.
Additionally, CATL is seeking local suppliers, including those for raw materials. Some suppliers have already submitted test samples, but negotiations are still in the early stages and must meet competitive criteria.
