Apple Plans $100 Million Investment in Indonesia for Accessories Factory
AsianFin – Apple has proposed a $100 million investment to establish a factory in Indonesia for producing accessories and components, according to the Indonesian Ministry of Industry. The announcement follows Indonesia’s ban on the sale of Apple’s iPhone 16, citing the company’s failure to meet local content requirements. Indonesia mandates that smartphones sold domestically must include at least 40% locally produced components. Trade Ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arif confirmed that discussions about Apple’s plans to build the factory in West Java Province will take place on Thursday. “The meeting indicates the Industry Minister welcomes Apple’s investment commitment,” he said. Indonesia has similarly banned the sale of smartphones manufactured by Alphabet-owned Google over non-compliance with local component regulations. Apple’s proposed investment could mark a step toward resolving these trade barriers while strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia.
