Anthropic Launches Open-Source "Model Context Protocol" to Bridge AI and Data Sources
TMTPOST – AI company Anthropic has unveiled a new open-source standard, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), designed to enhance the ability of AI assistants to interact with business tools, software, and other data sources. By enabling AI systems to access information directly from various sources, MCP aims to eliminate "data silos" and improve the relevance and quality of AI responses to queries. Anthropic has provided developers with three key components to support MCP: the MCP specification, a software development kit (SDK), and local MCP server support integrated into the Claude desktop application. Additionally, an open-source repository for MCP servers is now available. Several companies, including Block and Apollo, have already integrated MCP into their systems, while developer tool providers like Replit, Codeium, and Sourcegraph are actively adding MCP support to their platforms. Anthropic also announced that subscribers to the Claude Enterprise plan can use MCP servers to connect the Claude chatbot to internal systems. To facilitate adoption, the company has shared pre-built MCP servers for Google Drive, Slack, and GitHub, with plans to release toolkits to help organizations deploy MCP servers across their operations.
