Citigroup Lays Off ESG and Climate Reporting Analysts
TMTPOST -- Citigroup has reportedly cut approximately five analysts responsible for writing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and climate reports. These analysts were part of the Global Insights & Solutions division and departed the company over the past weekend. In response, a Citigroup spokesperson emphasized the bank's commitment to supporting its clients on their "sustainability journey" and achieving its net-zero emissions and sustainable financing goals. However, the spokesperson declined to comment on personnel matters. The layoffs come at a time when banks face increasing scrutiny over their environmental commitments and reporting practices. Citigroup's decision has raised questions about how financial institutions balance sustainability goals with internal restructuring efforts.
