iRobot Co-Founder Colin Angle Raises $30 Million for New Home Robotics Venture
TMTPOST -- Colin Angle, co-founder of iRobot, the maker of Roomba, is seeking to raise $30 million for his new home robotics venture. According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Angle’s company, Familiar Machines & Magic, has already secured $15 million from eight investors.
The filing, a Form D, does not reveal the names of the investors. However, Data Point Capital lists Familiar Machines as part of its portfolio on its website.
While the company has registered a domain name and a trademark application, it does not yet have a functional website. Angle did not respond to a request for comment through LinkedIn.
In a recent interview with The Boston Globe, Angle shared that Familiar Machines, which is based in Boston with plans to expand to Los Angeles, is focused on developing innovative home robots with an emphasis on health and wellness. In addition to Angle, the company's co-founders include former iRobot CTO Chris Jones and iRobot veteran Ira Renfrew, who also contributed to the development of Amazon's now-defunct Scout delivery bot.
