TMTPOST -- The AI application team behind Alibaba’s Tongyi has officially spun off from Aliyun (Alibaba Cloud) and joined the Alibaba Intelligent Information Group, according to multiple independent sources. This organizational shift includes the transfer of product managers working on the Tongyi consumer-facing (To C) products, along with related engineering teams, to the new group. After the restructuring, the Tongyi PC and app teams will be on par with the intelligent search product Quark. However, the original Tongyi Laboratory remains under the Aliyun system. Previously, the Tongyi family of large models, including the Tongyi app and PC platform, operated within the Aliyun framework. Tongyi was developed by Alibaba’s DAMO Academy, which focuses on basic science and innovative technology research, while Aliyun primarily serves B2B clients, making it less suitable for direct consumer application development and promotion.
