ASML Sells 'Lego' Replicas of Its Advanced Chipmaking Machines to Employees Only
TMTPOST -- ASML Holding NV, the Dutch company known for producing the world’s most advanced chipmaking machines, has been selling miniature Lego-like models of its prized TWINSCAN EXE:5000 high-NA extreme ultraviolet lithography machines exclusively to its employees.
When asked about the replicas, ASML spokesperson Monique Mols clarified that they are "only for ASML employees" and not available to the public. While engineers on social media have called for these sets to be made more widely available, Mols emphasized that the models were created as a fun, celebratory item for employees marking the company’s 40th anniversary.
The Lego-style models were priced at €208 ($216) in ASML's employee store, a far cry from the €350 million price tag of the actual machines, which are as heavy as two Airbus A320s. The first full-sized TWINSCAN EXE:5000 was shipped to Intel's Oregon factory last year.
