Japan to Ease Visa Requirements for Chinese Citizens
TMTPOST -- Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Iwaya on Wednesday announced that Japan would ease visa requirements for Chinese citizens, including the introduction of a new 10-year tourist visa. According to a report by Nikkei Asia on Wednesday (December 25), the length of stay for group travel visas will also be extended from 15 days to 30 days, aimed at promoting economic and cultural exchanges between China and Japan.
Additionally, Chinese citizens aged 65 and above will no longer be required to submit proof of employment when applying for a visa. The three-year individual tourist visa will also see the cancellation of the requirement that travelers must enter Japan within three months of the visa’s issuance.
Currently, Chinese citizens can use "multiple-entry tourist visas" for personal travel, with options for 3-year and 5-year validity. The newly introduced 10-year visa will be primarily aimed at the wealthier class, with conditions including higher annual income and asset requirements, designed to encourage spending in Japan. The relaxed visa measures are expected to be implemented in the spring of 2025.
