TMTPOST -- China’s AI chatbot DeepSeek has overtaken Google’s Gemini in user traffic just a week after its launch, according to research firm SimilarWeb. Despite Gemini being available for nearly two years, DeepSeek has quickly gained traction among users worldwide. On January 31, DeepSeek.com recorded 2.4 million daily visits in the United States, surpassing Gemini’s 1.5 million visits by 60%. However, ChatGPT by OpenAI remains the dominant player, with 19.3 million daily visits, more than eight times that of DeepSeek. Notably, DeepSeek reached a peak of 4.9 million visits on January 28. The gap between DeepSeek and Gemini is even wider outside the United States. SimilarWeb data shows that on January 31, DeepSeek’s global traffic (excluding China) hit 29.2 million visits—more than three times that of Gemini.
