Anthropic CEO Criticizes DeepSeek for Poor Performance in Bioweapons Safety Test
TMTPOST -- Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has expressed serious concerns about competitor DeepSeek, the Chinese AI company that gained attention with its R1 model. However, his worries go beyond the usual concerns of DeepSeek potentially sending user data back to China. In an interview on Jordan Schneider’s ChinaTalk podcast, Amodei revealed that DeepSeek produced concerning bioweapons-related data during a safety test conducted by Anthropic. Amodei described DeepSeek’s performance as "the worst of basically any model we’d ever tested." He added, "It had absolutely no blocks whatsoever against generating this information." This test is part of Anthropic’s routine evaluations of AI models to assess national security risks. The company examines whether these models can generate bioweapons-related information that isn't readily accessible through Google or textbooks. Anthropic prides itself on being a provider of foundational AI models with a strong focus on safety.
