China’s Pet Population Surpasses Number of Infants for the First Time
TMTPOST -- Goldman Sachs report shows that China’s pet population has surpassed the number of children under four years old for the first time in 2024.
By 2030, the pet population is expected to nearly double that of infants. The number of pet-owning households has already exceeded 100 million. Additionally, smaller cities are emerging as the new focal point for the growth of the pet economy. According to the latest data from the 2025 China Pet Industry White Paper, the urban dog and cat consumption market in China surged by 7.5% in 2024, surpassing 300 billion yuan.
