TMTPOST -- Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google's DeepMind, has praised DeepSeek's latest AI model but cautioned that the excitement surrounding the Chinese tech firm may be exaggerated. Speaking in Paris ahead of the AI Action Summit, Hassabis acknowledged the model’s strengths, calling it “the best work I’ve seen come out of China.” However, he emphasized that no groundbreaking scientific advancements were involved. “Despite the hype, it’s using known techniques—actually, many of the techniques we invented at Google and DeepMind,” he said, referencing AlphaZero, DeepMind’s self-learning system that mastered chess, Go, and shogi at a world-class level. Still, Hassabis admitted that DeepSeek’s model could have significant geopolitical implications.
