Warner Bros to Develop 'Harry Potter Studio Tour' in Shanghai With Chinese Partner
TMTPOST -- Warner Bros has partnered with Jinjiang International to create a "Harry Potter Studio Tour" in Shanghai, the Chinese company announced on Wednesday. According to a social media post by Jinjiang, the proposed attraction will offer visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Harry Potter films and feature recreations of iconic scenes. The studio tour will span over 53,000 square meters. The project will be part of a major renovation of a Shanghai theme park currently operated by Jinjiang, with plans to open in 2027, pending regulatory approval. This new venture will mark Warner Bros' third "Harry Potter Studio Tour" globally, following the success of similar attractions in London and Tokyo. The Harry Potter franchise has a massive following in China, a country where foreign films face limited box office presence due to strict quotas and a growing preference for domestic content. In addition, Universal Studios in Beijing already features a section called "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,"which includes a variety of themed rides and attractions. Last year, the eight Harry Potter films were also re-released in Chinese cinemas.
