Xi to Lead Symposium With Jack Ma and Chinese Business Leaders
TMTPOST -- Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to chair a symposium next week aimed at boosting sentiment in the private sector, with notable attendees including Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma, Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the event.
Xi, who rarely chairs events focused on the private sector, is expected to address the pressing challenges facing Chinese businesses, particularly in light of the ongoing tensions with the United States and sluggish domestic economic growth. The symposium, scheduled for Monday, will bring together top business leaders, including many from the tech sector, according to multiple sources.
Among the key figures expected to attend are Pony Ma, CEO of Tencent, Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, and Wang Xingxing, founder of robotics firm Yushu Technology. Additionally, an executive from Huawei Technologies is anticipated to participate, sources said.
Xi is expected to encourage these entrepreneurs to continue expanding both domestically and internationally, particularly as the Sino-U.S. technology conflict intensifies. Sources noted that the private sector leaders will likely be urged to navigate the challenges posed by the evolving geopolitical landscape.
Although the State Council Information Office, responsible for handling media inquiries on behalf of China's leadership, has not commented on the symposium, the event signals the government’s growing focus on supporting the private sector during turbulent times.
Representatives from Alibaba, Tencent, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Yushu Technology did not respond to requests for comment on the gathering.
This rare meeting between Xi and key Chinese business figures highlights the government's ongoing efforts to address the challenges facing the country’s major corporations and foster growth amid external and internal pressures.
