Didi's Self-Driving Unit Seeks Funding at $5 Billion Valuation
TMTPOST -- Didi Global Inc. is seeking new funding for its autonomous driving division, with plans to raise capital at a valuation of approximately $5 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter. The move comes as Chinese tech firms benefit from heightened investor interest.
Didi Autonomous Driving aims to secure several hundred million dollars and is currently in talks with potential investors, including a Beijing-based fund, to gauge their interest, the sources said, speaking anonymously due to the private nature of the discussions.
The autonomous division operates a fleet of over 200 self-driving vehicles that have been tested in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. In April 2023, Didi unveiled its first robotaxi concept, the Didi Neuron.
The company may use the raised funds to further develop autonomous driving technology and accelerate the mass production of its robotaxi, one source added. However, discussions are still ongoing, and Didi may ultimately decide not to proceed with the funding round.
