Google Reaffirms Commitment to Open-Source Android Amid Speculation
TMTPOST – Reports suggesting that Google plans to terminate the open-source nature of Android have sparked widespread discussion online. As one of the world’s most widely used mobile operating systems, the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is a critical component supporting over 3 billion devices globally. Industry experts warn that a shift to a closed-source model would have profound implications for the existing Android ecosystem. However, sources from multiple Google partners indicate that while the company is indeed making changes to its Android development model, it has reassured partners that this does not signal a move toward a closed-source system. In a communication obtained between Google and its Chinese partners, the company stated that it is undergoing internal workflow adjustments to streamline Android development. However, it emphasized that Google remains committed to releasing the full source code of all relevant platform projects for future Android versions on AOSP.
