Stock Futures Plunge as Markets React to Trump’s Tariff Announcement
TMTPOST -- U.S. stock futures plummeted in after-hours trading on Wednesday as investors reacted to President Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs, raising fears of an escalating trade war that could disrupt the global economy.
Dow futures dropped over 1,100 points (2.7%), S&P 500 futures fell 3.9%, and Nasdaq 100 futures tumbled 4.7%.
Earlier in the day, U.S. markets had closed higher, but the selloff began immediately after Trump unveiled his tariff plan, holding up a chart outlining increased rates for various countries.
Asian markets followed suit, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 plunging over 4%, South Korea’s KOSPI down 2.7%, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipping 2.4% as trading opened on Thursday. Taiwan’s Taiex remained closed for a holiday.
