Malaysia Airlines Considers Purchasing Aircraft from COMAC
TMTPOST — Malaysia Airlines is reportedly evaluating the purchase of aircraft from China's Commercial Aircraft Corporation (COMAC), with a focus on three models: the C909, C919, and C929.
According to a recent joint statement released by China and Malaysia on April 17, both countries have expressed support for Malaysian airlines in introducing and operating Chinese-made commercial aircraft.
The statement specifically referred to the C909 and C919, both manufactured by COMAC. The C909 has already entered markets in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Vietnam, and Laos, while the C919 primarily serves the domestic market in China.
A senior executive from Malaysia Airlines Group confirmed on April 18 that the airline is in the process of planning its fleet expansion over the next few years, and is actively considering aircraft from COMAC. The two teams have already held multiple rounds of discussions.
When asked which model—C909, C919, or C929—was of most interest, the executive stated that all options were under consideration. "Our operations at Subang International Airport are well-suited for the smaller aircraft produced by COMAC," the official added.
