CATL Unveils 5-Minute Charging Battery With 320-Mile Range, Outpacing BYD and Tesla
TMTPOST -- China’s CATL, the world’s largest electric vehicle battery maker, has unveiled an upgraded version of its fast-charging Shenxing battery, claiming it can deliver up to 320 miles of range on just a five-minute charge—a significant leap ahead of rivals BYD and Tesla. The announcement comes just weeks after BYD launched its own rapid-charging battery, which supports up to 250 miles of range in the same five-minute window. Tesla, by comparison, delivers about 200 miles of range in a 15-minute Supercharger session. “Once again, we are pushing the boundaries of performance beyond limits,” said CATL’s Chief Technology Officer Gao Huan at the company’s Tech Day in Shanghai. “Our goal is to make the CATL Shenxing supercharging battery the standard for electric vehicles, bringing users a more convenient and freer travel experience.” The high-stakes showdown between CATL and BYD highlights the fierce competition in China’s EV market, where tech breakthroughs are arriving at breakneck speed and driving innovation at globally competitive prices.
