Trump Pressures Apple to Curb iPhone Production Shift to India
TMTPOST -- U.S. President Donald Trump said he has urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to halt the company’s plans to expand manufacturing operations in India, signaling his opposition to Apple’s ongoing efforts to reduce reliance on Chinese production. “I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday,” Trump remarked during a state visit to Qatar. “He is building all over India. I don’t want you building in India.” According to Trump, the conversation led to Apple agreeing to increase its production within the United States. Trump also criticized India’s high tariff barriers, calling the country one of the most challenging markets for American exports. However, he noted that India has offered to lower import duties on U.S. goods as part of ongoing discussions aimed at reaching a broader trade agreement.
