Beijing Issues First Rare Earth Magnet Export Permits, Volkswagen Suppliers Included
TMTPOST -- China has granted export permits to at least four rare earth magnet producers, including suppliers to German automaker Volkswagen, according to industry sources—marking the first approvals since Beijing tightened export controls last month. Among the companies receiving permits is Baotou Tianhe Magnetics (603072.SS), a key manufacturer of magnets used in electric and hybrid vehicle motors. According to three sources familiar with the matter, the company secured an export license for Volkswagen in late April. One source noted that the automaker had engaged with Chinese authorities to help facilitate the approval process. The move signals that, despite recent restrictions, China intends to maintain the flow of critical rare earth materials vital to global electric vehicle and high-tech supply chains.
