BYD Enters Romanian Market, Plans Over 30 Dealerships by End of 2025
TMTPOST -- Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has officially launched operations in Romania, marking another milestone in its European expansion strategy. The company unveiled a lineup of four models tailored for the local market and announced ambitious plans to establish more than 30 sales points across the country by the end of 2025. The first showroom opened in the capital city of Bucharest through partnerships with local dealers Țiriac Auto and DAB Auto. The initial product lineup includes the all-electric BYD Sealion 7, BYD Seal, plug-in hybrid BYD Seal U DM-i, and the compact electric BYD Atto 2—covering a range of vehicle types to appeal to both urban drivers and family-oriented consumers. BYD’s expansion in Romania is part of its broader effort to gain a foothold in Central and Eastern Europe, where electric vehicle adoption is on the rise due to supportive government incentives and growing environmental awareness. According to the company, future dealership locations will include major cities such as Ploiești, Brașov, Iași, Cluj-Napoca, and Timișoara. These areas are among Romania’s most economically active urban centers and are expected to be key growth markets for electric mobility. The move comes as BYD aggressively competes with established global automakers in Europe’s EV space. The company has already launched operations in several Western European countries and is now targeting new markets with strong long-term growth potential. BYD’s entry into Romania underscores its commitment to becoming a dominant EV player in Europe, offering a combination of advanced technology, competitive pricing, and local partnerships to accelerate its regional footprint.
