Half of Global AI Talent Is Chinese, U.S. Curbs Are a Mistake, Says Nvidia CEO
TMTPOST -- Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has once again criticized U.S. government restrictions on artificial intelligence technology, calling them “completely wrong” for America’s long-term leadership in the field.
“If the goal of these restrictions is to help the U.S. stay ahead, the current policy is doing the exact opposite,” Huang said during a recent interview. He emphasized China’s growing strength in AI, noting that “50% of the world’s AI researchers are Chinese—you simply can’t stop them from making progress.”
Huang highlighted the success of Chinese AI models such as DeepSeek and stressed the need for open competition to drive innovation. “Companies need competition to grow, and so do countries,” he said. “China will keep up at every step. That’s expected.”
He also pointed to the global caliber of Chinese talent and organizations. “Huawei is a powerful, world-class company, and China’s AI scientists and researchers are world-class as well,” Huang said, adding that anyone who visits Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google DeepMind will find many Chinese researchers playing key roles.
Failing to recognize China’s contributions to AI, he said, reflects “a deep lack of confidence.”
