Intel Weighs Sale of Networking and Edge Business
TMTPOST -- Intel is exploring the potential sale of its networking and edge computing division as part of a broader effort to streamline operations and refocus on its core strengths, according to three people familiar with the matter. The unit, previously known as NEX in Intel’s financial disclosures, is under review as CEO Lip-Bu Tan pursues a strategy to concentrate resources on the company’s dominant areas: PC and data center chips. Speaking at an event in Taipei marking Intel’s 40th anniversary in the region, Tan emphasized plans to deepen investments in those core segments, noting the company holds about 68% of the PC chip market and 55% in data centers. Intel has already held discussions on the timing and structure of a potential exit from the NEX business and has approached third parties that might be interested, one source said. The move underscores Tan’s push to sharpen Intel’s competitive edge by divesting non-essential units and reallocating talent and capital toward its traditional profit drivers.
