White House Raises Tariffs on Imported Steel and Aluminum to 50%, Keeps UK Rate at 25%
TMTPOST — The White House announced on June 3 local time that President Donald Trump has decided to double tariffs on imported steel, aluminum, and related products from 25% to 50%. The new tariffs will take effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 4, 2025.
According to the statement, the tariff rate on steel and aluminum imports from the United Kingdom will remain unchanged at 25%.
Beginning July 9, 2025, the U.S. may adjust the applicable tariff rates and establish import quotas for steel and aluminum based on the provisions of the Environmental Policy Statement. If the UK is found to be non-compliant with the environmental policy terms, the tariff rate on its steel and aluminum exports could also be raised to 50%.
