China Mulls Safety Standards for Driver Assistance Systems Amid Growing Adoption
TMTPOST -- China is weighing new safety regulations for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), as domestic automakers increasingly equip vehicles with the technology to lure buyers in a competitive market.
A notice published Wednesday on the country’s national standards database revealed that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has proposed drafting new rules governing the use of such systems.
The move comes as automakers race to integrate features like automated lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, and self-parking to differentiate their models—particularly in the fast-growing electric vehicle segment.
While ADAS technology remains a key selling point, concerns over its safety implications have grown in tandem with adoption, prompting regulators to consider baseline standards to ensure consistency and reduce risk.
