In a court filing Thursday, Harvard asked a federal judge to immediately suspend President Donald Trump’s proclamation, which prevents foreign students and researchers affiliated with the university from entering the country. The legal action expands on a May 23 lawsuit challenging an earlier move by the U.S. government to restrict Harvard’s enrollment of international students. Trump has claimed the university’s refusal to share records related to alleged misconduct by international students poses a national security threat. His executive order, issued this week, also revoked Harvard’s authority to sponsor student visas.
