Perplexity AI Hits 780 Million Searches in May, Eyes 1 Billion Weekly Queries Within a Year
TMTPOST -- Artificial intelligence startup Perplexity is seeing explosive growth, with its AI-powered search engine logging 780 million queries in May—a 20% increase from the previous month—according to CEO Aravind Srinivas. If this momentum continues, the company could be handling 1 billion searches per week within a year.
Founded in 2022, Perplexity has scaled dramatically from just 3,000 daily queries in its early days to over 30 million per day. Speaking at a recent tech summit, Srinivas revealed that the company is banking on a new product—its in-development Comet browser—as a key driver of future growth.
Srinivas also took aim at legacy browsers like Google Chrome, which he said many users find outdated. He criticized Google’s AI assistant as “a bad product,” accusing the search giant of repackaging the same AI features year after year without delivering real user value.
