Climate Risks Could Disrupt Copper Supply for One-Third of Global Chip Production by 2035: PwC
TMTPOST -- By 2035, up to 32% of global semiconductor manufacturing could face copper supply disruptions linked to climate change—four times the current exposure—according to a new report from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) released Tuesday.
The report warns that prolonged droughts and water scarcity in key copper-producing regions, including Chile—the world’s top supplier—are already affecting output. PwC projects that by 2035, the majority of the 17 countries critical to copper supply for the chip industry will face high drought risk, posing a major threat to the semiconductor sector’s supply chain resilience.
