U.S. House Advances Crypto Bill with Procedural Vote After Record-Long Session
TMTPOST -- The U.S. House of Representatives passed a procedural vote late on July 16 that clears the way for full debate on a key cryptocurrency bill, according to multiple reports. The vote passed narrowly with 217 in favor and 212 against, allowing the legislation to proceed to the next stage of deliberation.
The session lasted more than eight hours, marking the longest vote since the introduction of the electronic voting system in the House. The procedural vote sets the agenda rules needed to bring the crypto-related legislation to the full House for formal consideration.
The bill had already passed the Senate in June. However, on July 15, more than 10 Republican lawmakers voted against the procedural motion in an earlier attempt, temporarily blocking progress on the legislation.
