Amazon Cloud Chief Says Replacing Junior Employees with AI Is “One of the Dumbest Ideas”
TMTPOST -- Matt Garman, head of Amazon Web Services, cautioned business leaders against hastily replacing junior employees with artificial intelligence. On Tuesday, during an episode of the “Matthew Berman” podcast, Garman called the practice “one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.” “They’re likely the least expensive employees you have, and they’re the ones most engaged with your AI tools,” he explained. “What happens 10 years down the line if no one has actually learned or built anything?” Garman emphasized that companies should continue hiring recent graduates, mentoring them to develop software skills, problem-solving abilities, and industry best practices, rather than relying solely on AI to replace human talent.
