Nvidia’s China-Focused RTX6000D Sees Tepid Demand
TMTPOST -- Nvidia’s (NVDA) latest artificial intelligence chip for the Chinese market, the RTX6000D, has struggled to attract strong interest, with some major technology companies reportedly choosing not to place orders, according to two sources familiar with procurement discussions. The RTX6000D, primarily designed for AI inference workloads, is considered expensive relative to its capabilities, the sources said. During testing, the chip’s performance was found to lag behind the RTX5090—a model banned by the U.S. for use in China but still widely available through grey market channels at less than half the RTX6000D’s price of roughly 50,000 yuan ($7,000). These factors have contributed to a slower-than-expected uptake of Nvidia’s newest China-specific AI processor, highlighting the challenges foreign chipmakers face in balancing regulatory constraints, pricing, and performance expectations in the world’s largest AI market.
