Southern Chinese Cities Shut Schools, Businesses Ahead of Super Typhoon Ragasa
TMTPOST -- Several cities in southern China have rolled out sweeping precautionary measures, including suspending work and classes, as super typhoon Ragasa approaches. Authorities in Dongguan, Jiangmen, Shantou, Zhuhai, and Yangjiang in Guangdong province, as well as Haikou in Hainan province, said yesterday they would enforce the “Five Stops”: suspending classes, halting work, ceasing production, stopping transportation, and closing businesses. China’s National Meteorological Center issued an orange-level typhoon warning at 6 a.m. yesterday. Ragasa is forecast to move into the northeastern South China Sea early today and make landfall tomorrow along the Guangdong coast between Shenzhen and Xuwen. Meteorologists warned of severe winds and heavy rain across Guangdong’s central and eastern coast and Hainan’s northern shore.
